In all parts of Asia dogs are kept primarily as guardians of property. The tendency therefore is to breed large powerful animals of which the Tibetan Mastiff is an excellent example. Asiatic in temperament and appearance, he is of square and massive build, the impressiveness of which is increased by his thick hair. An unusual characteristic is the eyes, which are set on the slant. As yet the breed is not very common in England.
