The Skye Terrier is quite an unusual dog as it is covered with long smooth silky hair, even to its eyes and face and its large ears are tufted. As its name implies it came originally from the isle of Skye. It is fond of otter and badger hunting and, having a long body and short legs, can easily wriggle through holes and over rocks when on the scent. Like other Terrier breeds it is very intelligent, loyal and a good companion.
1936 DOGS - First SERIES OF 48 No 3 ISSUED BY GALLAHER

This breed first appeared as the "Isle of Skye Terrier" in 1843, when it was said to be found in perfection in the Western Isles of Scotland, Skye in particular; it somewhat resembles the Scottish Terrier, but is longer in the body, lower on the legs and covered with long but not coarse hair. Thanks to careful selection and breeding the Skye Terrier has developed into a sporty and affectionate dog. When free to follow his natural bent, the wear and tear of outdoor life keeps his coat in check. The usual colours are dark or light blue, grey, or fawn with black points.
