The Samoyede

Samoyed original vintage trade card art
Samoyed
1936

The loyal friend and helper of the Eskimo for generations, the Samoyede is used for haulage and transport is well as for hunting and is a splendid guard who will die rather than eld. Like the Chow Chow (see No. 9 of this series), the Chinaman's friend, the Samoyede also provides the Eskimo with flesh for food and fur for clothing. It has a wonderful coat and when in good condition and full coat looks magnificent. Although only of medium height, possesses very powerful shoulders and its strength and endurance are amazing.

The Samoyed (pronounced Sam-O-yad) is closely associated with dwellers in North-East Russia and Western Siberia, where he is employed as a guard, also for herding reindeer and for hunting. He is one of the oldest breeds in existence, and is most useful as well as being beautiful and interesting. Resembling an Esquimaux in build, he has become quite popular in Great Britain as a companion and show dog. The true Sainoyed has a double pure white coat - the outer one of glistening hairs standing off from the body, and a woolly undercoat.
