king charles spaniel 1 :: king charles spaniel 2

It is well-known that the King Charles Spaniel was one of the breeds favoured by King Charles II and it got its name from this connection. The strain, however, has been much improved since those days: more than a century ago the third Duke of Marlborough, by breeding with a red and white Cocker Spaniel, evolved the Blenheim, the present type of King Charles Spaniel. The Blenheim was named after the Duke's residence and this dog is now one of the most popular of the smaller breeds.
