A water-borne existence on the canals of Holland does not prevent the Dutch barge families from keeping dogs, which in fact have become the indispensable guardians ofthe craft. The true barge dog of Holland is the Keeshond, shown here, although other breeds, notably the tiny Schipperke, are used for this purpose. He is a very pleasing animal, and though not yet a familiar sight in this country, is found in increasing numbers at exhibitions.
