A splendid, all-round, dual purpose gundog. Skull well developed, clearly defined depression between eyes; long, lean and square muzzle, powerful jaw. Dark hazel eyes of medium size. Low-set ears, moderately long and wide. Strong, muscular neck. Body of medium length, well ribbed. Deep, well-developed chest. Powerful hindquarters, wide and fully developed. Well-set tail, carried low and nicely fringed. Legs straight and strong, nicely feathered. Feet not too small. Coat dense, flat or slightly waved, but never curly. Colour liver-and-white or black-and-white or either of these colours. Weight about 40 lbs.

The English Springer Spaniel, the general utility dog of the Spaniel family, is really the old Norfolk Spaniel modernised. In recent years he has gained more popularity in the field, on the Show Bench and as a companion. He is a powerful dog of symmetrical build, and a wonderful worker with the gun, usually capturing most of the honours at Field Trials. Colours: black and tan, liver and tan, black, liver, black, tan and white, liver and white, liver, tan and white, lemon and white and roans. Height about 15.5 in. Weight: 45-50 lb.
