The Bloodhound's miraculous powers of scent are known to everyone, and his reputation is as awe-inspiring as his gloomy appearance. Not many of them are kept as house-dogs, but some of the people who do keep them say they are equally morose by nature. In two respects they exhibit surprising wolf characteristics - their natural tendency to hunt in packs and their manner of giving tongue when on the scent, a normal bark being unknown to them.
