The Basenji has two remarkable characteristics which make it hard to believe that it belongs to the race of dogs at all. One is that it never barks, and the other that it washes itself like a cat. The breed is kept by the East African natives, and its introduction to this country is very recent. The wrinkles on the head, as seen in our picture, are very characteristic of this exotic strain.
