This site is an extensive catalog of trade cards featuring dogs - they are cigarette cards which were given away in packets before the second world war, there were several sets of Dogs featured by different companies.
Seven whole sets are illustrated on this site, totalling almost 350 dog cards grouped by breed and by series.
In total 92 seperate dog breeds are illustrated, variants are grouped together hence the dachshund page for instance has; long hairs, rough coats and short hairs all displayed together.

These dog cards date from the 1920s and 1930s, it is interesting to see many breeds which are almost unknown today - as well as noting several ommisions of popular breeds of today which were almost unheard of before WWII

These cards are comparatively rare and are much sought after by collectors and dog lovers, the interest lies both in the text shown on the verso, which is shown in full on the site - and in the pictures themselves, they frame up beautifully and make an interesting picture for the wall.
Generally dealers offer complete sets or partial sets from the same series for sale together - please note that we do NOT have any of these cards for sale!! sorry.
We are just about to launch a new website featuring antique and vintage dog art which will show vintage pictures and prints of many dog breeds, i've put the link here but it is work in progress and i expect to be finished around june 2004.
